Don’t tell Pat she’s on a diet. It was a lifestyle change that helped her shed the excess pounds she carried around ever since her son died in a bike accident.
Pat struggled for years being overweight – the bigger clothes, hiding in pictures, low self-esteem. She tried it all. She counted points. She counted calories. She tried every diet food she could find. But the number on the scale did not change.
Pat finally found her weight loss niche and it was without counting calories – a method that has for so long defined weight loss – when she walked into the Algonquin-based Healthy Habits Key to Wellness clinic.
Pat finally found success without giving up her favorite foods. “I never during my weight loss journey overdid it on broccoli, or cauliflower.” Pat said with a laugh.
“This is not a diet, this is a way to live and deal with food.”
Nutrition experts agree that obsessing over calories can leave dieters feeling empty.
A recent study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that dieting increased cortisol, the biochemical indicator of stress, and often accompanies weight gain.
The Foundation, a private organization that promotes public health, also found that most diets fail to create prolonged weight loss.
“Calorie counting is still very popular; the problem with that is you cannot do that for the rest of your life,” said Healthy Habits weight loss expert Karin Boode, who helped Pat with her weight loss.
“The key to weight loss is food control without giving up your favorite foods”.
After getting my PhD in Food Science in The Netherlands (where I was born and raised), I became an innovator and learned how to think outside the box. I have 5 patents in my name from those days.
I moved on to become a female executive in the bakery group for multinational Unilever. I held multiple positions on the board of several of Unilever’s bakery businesses, where I discovered the unhealthy lifestyle of a constantly on-the-go board member.
This made me decide to start an internal medicine and wellness clinic of my own, where I developed a unique wellness program, that has been extremely successful locally. I realized that it was time to take the program to a national level, which is why I have added being a professional speaker.
I enjoy showing female executives how to live a healthy lifestyle despite the fact that most meals are consumed at a restaurant or on-the-go. I can show you how to avoid (or reverse) chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and/or high cholesterol while performing at the highest levels in your demanding job.
